Wrexham Liberal Democrats have selected Bill Brereton to be their candidate for the Assembly Election contest in May, 2011
Bill managed Tom Rippeth's Campaign in the General Election in Wrexham helping Tom to come second with an increased share of the votes, bucking the national trend. Bill aims to build on the lessons and success to win Wrexham in the Assembly Elections and make sure that Wrexham's needs are given the priority they deserve.
Bill retired as Deputy Chief Constable of North Wales Police, some six years ago. Since then he has worked with the construction industry and in management consultancy. He holds a number of public appointments mainly in the health field.
Bill says that he will
'Fight for a fair deal for Wales, North Wales, and Wrexham'.
"For too long Wales has come off second best in the funding from Westminster.
For too long North Wales has come off second best in Wales.
For too long Wrexham has not had its just recognition as the leading town in North Wales"
Gerry Craddock, Chair of the Wrexham and Clwyd South Liberal Democrats welcomed the news.
"Wrexham Liberal Democrats are very pleased that Bill Brereton is to be our candidate in the forthcoming Assembly elections and will receive the support of all local Liberal Democrats. Bill has been an active campaigner for some time and is a well respected member of the Lib Dem team in Wrexham who will ensure that Wrexham is always at the forefront within the Assembly"
