"It is disappointing that on the day Labour have promised that they will help with the creation of as many as 50,000 jobs in Wales, we read that the Welsh Secretary Peter Hain is opposing Government investment and secure new jobs in Wrexham (Wrexham Leader 13/4/10).
Wrexham Labour MP Ian Lucas has long argued against a prison in Wrexham saying that "there are other parts of Wales with far higher unemployment rates than Wrexham that would benefit from public investment of this nature". [1]
In the past 12 months we have seen a doubling of unemployment amongst
16-25 year olds in the Wrexham area. A prison on the industrial estate would provide hundreds of secure jobs for local people that cannot be outsourced overseas in order to achieve government 'efficiency savings'.
Sadly Ian Lucas now appears to have convinced his Labour bosses in Cardiff of his view that Wrexham does not need new jobs.
At the forthcoming general election local voters now have a clear choice between an MP who has made it business to convince his Labour party bosses in Cardiff to bypass Wrexham or a new MP who will fight for a fair deal for local people. "
